Bamboo Variety 

Nuda Bamboo-

Maximum Height: 34 feet
Diameter: 1.75 inches
Hardiness: -15º F
This is a hardy bamboo. It has dark green culms with a bright white ring at the nodes. The leaves are also darker than on most other bamboos.

Golden Bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea)

Maximum Height: 40 feet
Typical northwest height: 15 to 20 feet
Diameter: 1.25 inches
Hardiness: 0° F
Common names: Fishpole Bamboo, Golden Bamboo
One of the strongest and most useful, growing rigidly upright.  Culm color is a yellow golden.

Henon Bamboo

Maximum Diameter: 3.5 inches

Common Name: Henon  

This bamboo has beautiful grayish/green culms.

Aureosulcata Bamboo-

Maximum Height: 26 feet
Diameter: 1.5 inches
Hardiness: -15º F
Common Name: Yellow Groove Bamboo                                                          A hardy bamboo that has green culms.  Although it has culms with abrupt kinks in the lower portion, it is rigidly upright.

 

Harbin Bamboo (Phyllostachys aureosulcata)

Maximum Height: 26 feet
Diameter: 1.5 inches

Common Name: 'Harbin Inversa'
This newly discovered form is bright yellow with multiple random narrow green stripes on the culm.  This is also a hardy bamboo.
 

Gold Bamboo (Phyllostachys bambusoides)

Common Name: Allgold
The culms are gold at sheath fall, with an occasional green stripe. They turn a beautiful butterscotch yellow with age
.  

Castillon Bamboo (Phyllostachys bambusoides)

Common Name: Castillon
Bright yellow at sheath fall.  The culms are bright golden yellow and have a green stripe in the sulcus.
 

Bissetii Bamboo-

Hardiness: -10º F
This one is a hardy bamboo.  The culms are dark green.

 

Moso Bamboo(Phyllostachys edulis)

Diameter: 7 inches

Common Name: Moso 

Also called: Phyllostachys heterocycla pubescens                                     

 

This is the largest of the hardy bamboos. The very large culms are decorated with masses of the smallest leaves, making a large bamboo look even larger.  Early white coloration/striping on new Moso seedling leaves - they fade to green in a few weeks. Once they have grown, the leaves are yellow with green stripes that turn green with dark green stripes in time.

Robert Young Bamboo

New culms are pea green in color, turning yellow with some green stripes upon exposure to sunshine.  This is a hardy bamboo.

Arrow Bamboo (Psuedosasa japonica)

Maximum Height: 18 feet
Diameter: 1 inch
Hardiness: 0º F
Common Name: Japanese Arrow Bamboo
The leaves, 5 to 13 inches long by 1.75 inches wide, makes a great tropical and woodsy look.  Has olive canes maturing to pale beige and dark green oblong leaves.
 

Half Black Bamboo (Phyllostachys arcana)

Maximum Height: 27'
Maximum Diameter: 1 1/4"
Minimum Temperature: 0° F
Does best in full sun.
Spreading: Moderate                                                                                           

 

 This bamboo is known as "Half Black" because black areas form at the base of young culms. These black patches usually fade with time. This bamboo is one of the best looking plants during the cold season.
